Fake Tan
Is it safe to use fake tan before having an operation?
I am booked in for surgery in a couple of weeks and was wondering whether it is safe to have a St Tropez spray-tan a couple of days before. I don’t know whether there is some kind of risk of infection where they make the incision if I have fake tan on.
Does anyone know the answer?
Thanks, I was not having a tan “specially” for the op (!) I just had it booked ages ag and thought perhaps I’d better cancel it! Also I don’t know whether it mkes a difference but I am in the UK and I don’t think they make you take an antiseptic bath before surgery (they have not told me this anyway).
As an OR nurse let me say that when patients come to the OR wearing makeup, we are not happy. Whole body tans? That would not be happy making either. You’d probably end up with one side washed off, or most of one side, anyway.
For many surgeries, the surgeons will require you to bathe in antiseptic soap, sometimes not just once, but twice. And by bathe I mean a complete Body Scrub down.
The answer is, why waste the money on a spray tan when the prep is going to remove it anyway? And even if you don’t have to take a complete shower in antiseptic soap, you might have to scrub off your leg from top to bottom if you’re having knee surgery. That’d look pretty odd, don’t you think?
So, why not wait til after surgery and then get your money’s worth?
Stacey, if you were going to have some kind of surgery done on your face, would you show up in full makeup anyway?
